~Researching these families of early Arkansas~
EARLS/HUNTER/SHIRLEY/ROBBINS/LEE/SMITH/PEARSON/ CHRISTENBERRY/McCLURE/CRABTREE.
Concentrating on MARTHA JANE McCLURE b. March 1852 Arkansas and RICHARD LEE SMITH b. March 1848 Johnson Co Arkansas. They resided most of their lives in JOHNSON and LOGAN counties. They are both buried in McKendree Cemetery, Logan County, Arkansas, between Scranton and Subiaco. At this time no names have been identified for the parents of Martha Jane McClure. Accordng to census records, Martha's father was born in ALABAMA and mother in TENNESSEE. The family moved to Arkansas from either Tennessee or Alabama sometime before Martha's birth in 1852. Richard and Martha are listed in the census from 1880 on, but before that we have been unable to find Martha's McClure family. There is a family located in the 1870 census, a few houses from Richard's family (Joseph and Harriet Lee Smith). At the top of the census page for Johnson County, Arkansas, Clark Township, Ellsworth p.o., is household number 131, Mahala Clon/Clun, 34, b. Tennessee, with four daughters. Martha J. 15, b. Arkansas is one of the daughters. Later this month I will be adding links to census records and pictures of this family. Please keep in touch. If you think know something that could further our McClure research on this family, please feel free to share it with all of us.
