56. Mary³ Ayer (Cornet Peter², Capt John¹ Ayers) (#5133) was born in Haverhill, Essex, MA 6 Aug 1666.⁽³³²⁾ Mary died 1743 at 76 years of age.⁽³³³⁾ Perley says "she was of Ipswich, his widow, in 1730."

She married Joseph Calef in Boston, Suffolk, MA, 24 Mar 1693.⁽³³⁴⁾ Perley says m bef 1699

Joseph was born 1671.⁽³³⁵⁾ Joseph was the son of Robert Calef and Mary (Calef). Joseph died 28 Dec 1707 at 36 years of age.⁽³³⁶⁾ at age 36

Abstract from The Hammatt Papers, pp 46-48:

CALEF, Joseph, son of Robert* of Roxbury, was a physician; his name is in a list of such as had horses on the common in 1697; he then has the title of Mr. and his name is spelt Calf. In the meetign house which was built in the year 1699, there was one tier of pews against the walls which were assigned to the principle inhabitants for the use of their wives and families, while the men were obliged to take their seats in the body of the house. The committee appointed for that purpose assigned to "Mr. Joseph Caleff ye 5th pew on ye so. east side of ye great door for his wife and family." Mr. Joseph Calef himself, was appointed to sit in the fourth seat, his wife was named Mary; their children were:

Robert(2), born Dec. 12, 1693, Joseph(2) born May 20, 1695, and Samuel(2) and Ebenezer(2) born Jan 25, 1696. and according to Mr. Felt. two others, Peter and Mary.

He died December 28, 1707, in the 36th year of his age (see epitaph 38). He subscribed 9s to the bell, 1699; the name is spelled Calliffe. Robert(2) died July 12, 1730 (epitaph 39), and Samuel(2) died Sept. 1, 1720, aged 24 (epitaph 40).

* Samuel Caleff, will, dated August 19, 1720, proved Sept. 26, = "To my Hon'd Mother, Mary Caleff," - "as an heir to he estate of my Grand father Robert Caleff, late of Roxbury, in ye country of Suffolk, dec'd."

"To my Hon'd Mother, Mary Caleff," - "as an heir to ye estate of my Grand father Robert Caleff, late of Roxbury, in ye county of Suffolk, dec'd."
