Avery Family Reunion - 1991

AVERY FAMILY REUNION

Pittsfield Town Hall

Pittsfield, Ohio

July 5-6, 1991

The first reunion of the descendants of the Carlos Avery family was held July 5th and 6th, 1991 at the Town Hall and Park in Pittsfield, Ohio, with an attendance of 88 over the two days. The morning of the first day was spent registering, receiving Avery T-shirts, and getting acquainted with families. A picnic lunch was served at noon after which a brief history of the Avery family was presented. A display of the family history and genealogy chart was available so that one could trace their family history and relationship with one another. A video made by Mark Avery was shown with pictures of first families and homes where they had lived in Pittsfield. After this, visiting, reviewing family background and a time of games with Kendra and Melissa Avery providing activities for the younger children. Dinner of Lasagna was served and then an evening of Blue Grass music and dancing at the park pavilion was enjoyed.

The second day homemade ice cream was made in the morning which was a fun time for all participating, each taking a turn at cranking and an amazement to the children who had never seen this process before. Lunch of hoagies and ice cream was served, then pictures were taken of the group and individual families. A tour of the Carlos Avery home, with present owners Debbie and Claude Lackowski as hosts, was taken. They are restoring this home which was built by Carlos, the first Avery to come to Pittsfield, and is listed in the National Registry of Historical Homes. There was also a tour of the area which had been the Avery Park and the area where the road and street car track had cut through the Carlos Avery property. Dinner was catered. A vote was taken as to where and when the next reunion should be with a majority vote for Colorado, 1993. A time of sharing and fellowship lead by Bernie Windmiller and Les Avery, followed by a video of the past two days events - then farewells.....
