For the first 4 months of 1900, Gertrude Sherburne kept
daily notes on her life in Oberlin, Ohio, writing them on
the pages of a small leather bound calender.

Gertrude Jessie Sherburne, born Sep, 5, 1878 in Ohio was
the second of four children born to Marshall and Elizabeth Sherburne.
The other children of Marshall and Elizabeth were; Lona Cassie
(1876-1927), Elmer Theron (1885- ) and John Rex (1893-1968).
From her birth until around 1902, the family resided in the areas
of Pittsfield, Kipton, and Oberlin, Ohio. Around 1902 the family moved
to San Jose, California.

About 1903 in San Felipe, California, Gertrude married True Trevor Tourtillot
son of unknown Tourtillot and Jane Holbrook Tourtillot. True was
born Sep. 18,1870 in California and died July 30, 1961 in
Santa Clara California.

According to census records, True worked for the Agnew State Hospital
for the insane from the 1900's through the 1930's.
Gertrude and True had a son True S. Tourtillot (1909-1965).

Gertrude died June 3, 1942 in San Jose, California.
