Thomas Sanderson & Ellen Walters

Thomas Sanderson, was born in Alderthwaite, Hoyland, Yorkshire, and was baptised 12th February 1832 at St Peters Hoyland. He married Ellen Walters on the 28th May 1854 at All Saints church, Rotherham. Thomas died 28th March 1904 on Rockmount, Hoyland, and is buried in Holy Trinity Elsecar.

Ellen Walters ( known also on some documents as Waters & Waterhouse ) was baptised 10th November 1839 in Christchurch, Oldbury, Worcs. Ellen died on the 22nd November 1882 in Hoyland, and is also buried in Elsecar.

 

Thomas and Ellen had the following children:

 

William Sanderson, born 6 Sept 1855 at Stubbin, Hoyland. He was married to Ann Bamborough of Liverpool in 1881, Rotherham Reg Dist. They eventually settled in Warrington.

 

Valentine Sanderson, born 14 Feb 1857 in Hoyland. Married Phoebe Smith, born c 1864 Oldbury, Worcs, at St John, Chapeltown on the 23rd Apr 1883.  Valentine died on Foundry Street, Elsecar, on the 12 May 1921, and Phoebe  died at Featherstone ( she had relations there ), on the 2 May 1915. Both are buried in Elsecar. The first 10 years or so of their married life were spent in Barrow in Furness.

 

Mary Jane Sanderson, born 20 Jan 1859 in Oldbury, Worcs. Married John Smith, born c 1857 probable Toll End Tipton Staffs. They married at Attercliffe Parish Church (now in Sheffield ) on the 1 Mar 1880. They both died at there home on Fife St, Wincobank, Sheffield. John in 1922 & Mary in 1933 Both are buried in Kimberworth, Rotherham.

 

Joseph Sanderson, born on the 22nd Nov 1860 at Littlefield, Oldbury, Worcs.  Married Mary Ann Foley, born 20 Nov 1871 at 21 Monk Street, Hindpool, Barrow In Furness, on 29 Oct 1892. G R O Barrow In Furness. Mary Ann died at 6 ct 10 Barrow Rd Wincobank Sheffield, in 1923. Joseph died on Tipton St Brightside Sheffield in 1939. Both are buried at Kimberworth Rotherham. 

 

Elizabeth Ann Sanderson, was born September 1864 in Stubbin, Hoyland, Yorkshire, died 27 December 1943. Elizabeth Ann was married in 1884 to George Bagnall.

 

John Thomas Sanderson, born 7 Feb 1867 at Spring Cottage, Hoyland. John Thomas married Annie Elizabeth Marshall, who was born about 1870 in Hoyland. They were married in 1884 in Sheffield Reg District. John was injured when he was crushed by a coal tub when working in the Hoyland Silkstone Pit ( now under Platts Common Ind Site ). He was taken home but sometime later on he died from his injuries. An inquest was held at the Strafford Arms ( now Begger & Gentleman ), and reported in the Mexborough & Swinton Times Oct 29 1886. John & Annie Had two children, both died young. All three are buried together in St Peters Hoyland.

 

Phoebe Sanderson, born 9 Mar 1870 in Hoyland, married John Thomas Perkes, born around 1870 in Middle Rainton, Durham. They married on the 5 Oct 1893 St Peters Hoyland. Phoebe died at 36 Elm St Hoyland and was buried on the 16 Aug 1916. John died at 65 Hoyland Road, Hoyland. Both are buried in Kirk Balk Cemetery. Their second daughter ( there were 5 in all ) was Ellen Perkes, baptised 13 Aug 1896. She was married to Lawrence Parton Bagnall.

 

Fanny Sanderson, born about 1871 in Hoyland. Fanny is buried in Holy Trinity Elsecar. The burial registers state: Fanny Sanderson Abode The Union House Barnsley. Burial 21 Mar 1897 Aged 25.

 

Stephen Sanderson, born 7 May 1873 at Hoyland, married Mary Emma Foers,  who was born 19 March 1874 in Rotherham. They married on the 29 Jan 1894 at St Peters, Hoyland. Stephen died on the 2 Jun 1943 Broadcarr Road, Hoyland. Mary died 12 Nov 1959. Both are buried in Kirk Balk Cemetery. Netta, their daughter died in 1996, and she is buried with them.
