How To Guide…

Surname Pages

  • To view the data click “David Dreyer’s Extraction Database”, on navigation bar at the left of the home page.
  • The data is broken up into several web pages.
  • Each page has an index near the top which links to all the other surname pages.
  • If you do not see your surname, click on a surname in the index that is alphabetically before the surname you are looking for
  • Names like Mueller or Schmidt usually have many entries, but the way the pages are designed, once a surname is on a page, it will not appear on any other page, so you don’t have to leave the page to find your surname of interest.

The Database Entries

  • Entries are color coded.
    • If the entry color is dark blue:
      • The surname belongs to a male individual.
      • Each calendar entry, on a calendar image page, is listed alphabetically by the male surname.
      • The spouse, if she is listed, normally includes her maiden name and village of origin.
    • If the entry color is brown:
      • The surname belongs to a woman
      • You will not normally see the calendar image page entries starting with a woman’s surname unless she is single or a window.
  • The years the individual have subscribed to the calendar are listed in parenthesis
  • The entry may contain comments in the ‘Note:’ section of the entry.
  • All of the entries not marked were extracted by David Dreyer, those notes that have initials in parentheses indicate the person who extracted the entry.  (DB) for Dennis Bauer, (DD) for David Dreyer and (PS) for Pete Schmidt.  (DD) will only appear in the presence of other initials if additional information was added by someone other than Dave Dreyer.
  • A note may refer to information for a specific year and is indicated in parenthesis, as indicated below, the village for the spouse is spelled differently for the year 1942

The City Index

  • All cities in each entry are all linked by the city and state to the city index page.  If you click on city you are taken to the correct part of the city index
  • To view the city index directly, click on “City Index” in the navigation bar at the left on the home page.
  • The index is alphabetical by state.  Canada, Europe and other countries are found after the last US cities listed.

  • To see the page image, click on one of the linked pages (those with underlines as shown above.  The other links will be selectable when there images are uploaded in the near future.
  •

Caution:  Although calendar page images are organized alphabetically within each city, many times there are names that are scattered about that list a different city address.  Some of these sections  are labeled as mixed, or the names are not in alphabetic order.  You may find an entry for one city in the middle of a list titled with a different city name.  The index was build so that there is a page link for a given city, even if only one entry for that city appears on the page..
