Ancil Kesterson 1924 - Feb. 20, 2009 (married to Della Compton)

Ancil Kesterson, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at his home. Born in the Marlow community of Anderson County, he was a lifelong resident of the area. A member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church and Omega Masonic Lodge 536 F&AM, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired Oak Ridge School System custodian with 33 years of service. Before his disability, he enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by parents, Richard Edward Kesterson and Lula Matt Brooks Kesterson; brothers, Alvin Kesterson and Clyde Kesterson; and sisters, Bonnie Kesterson and Anna Mae McMahan. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Della Compton Kesterson of Oak Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Dottie Kesterson of Cleveland, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Hildebrandt of Karns, Mamie and Bob Hogsed of Royston, Ga., Nona and Charles Huff of Lilburn, Ga., and Pamela and Miki Golden of Knoxville; foster daughter and spouse, Angela and Neil Whatley of Oak Ridge; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Patterson of Marlow; and sister-in-law, Stella Goodwin of Harriman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs. A Masonic service will follow in the chapel. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, in Poplar Creek Baptist Church, with Pastors Tom Chadwick and Luther Kidwell officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton.
