Lucy Jane Kesterson was born 26 September 1863 in Odessa, Lafayette Co MO, the daughter of Gross Scruggs and Narcissus (Easterly) Kesterson. Lucy married Richard Marion Brown 5 March 1884, the son of William C. & Elizabeth (Bledsoe) Brown. He was born 29 April 1861. Lucy died 16 July 1941, Richard died 23 February 1946, both buried at Concord Cemetery in Lafayette County.

Obituary:
Mrs Lucy Jane (Kesterson) Brown, 77 years, 10 months, 20 days old, died at her home 6 1/2 miles southwest of Odessa, July 16, 1941 after a long illness. Mrs. Brown, daughter of Gross S. and Narcissus Kesterson was born at Lexington, Missouri, Sept. 26, 1863 and spent most of her life near Odessa. March 5, 1884 she was united in marriage to R. Marion Brown at the home of her parents, west of Odessa, Rev. Alec Barton, performing the ceremony. To this union thirteen children were born, nine of who are left with the husband to mourn her death. They are Mrs. W J Hutchings Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Ming Rader, Kansas City; Jesse C. Brown, Mexico, MO; Mrs. Lillie Shacklefored, Odessa; Mrs. Ed Wakeman, Oak Grove; Mrs. Tom Barnett, Odessa; Mrs. Lenora Reed of the home; Oscar Brown, Concordia, Kansas; Carl Brown, Indianapolis, Ind; twenty-five grandchildren; two brother, I.E. KEsterson, Yates Center, Kans. and T.D. Kesterson Odessa. Mrs. Brown joined the Baptist church in early life. She was an unselfish, faithful christian, a loving mother and a kind friend. She was happy in doing for others and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. Funeral services will be held at Concord church, Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. J.A.Bryson and her remains will be ladi to rest in Concord cemetery. May each of us live as she, so when the summons comes for us to give up this life we can say. "Do not grieve for me, I am not afraid to die".
