Oldest Son of Joseph and Jane Underwood COX

Noah W. COX was born 17 Jun 1839 in Wood Co., OH. He died 21 May 1910, Haskins, Wood Co., OH in his 70th year not to long after a shed that he was taking down fell on top of him. Noah was buried 23 May 1910, Waterville/Wakeman Cem., Waterville, OH.

Noah was blinded in Civil War in the battle of Kennesaw Mt GA in June 1864. The blindness was due to infection caused by gunpowder burns. he was discharged August 11, 1865 at Camp Dennison, OH and went to live in Bowling Green.

The first Cox reunion was held in Perrysburg on Noahs 65th birthday, according to Jesse U Cox, Noah's son.

Noah was a member of the U.B. church at Perrysburg; a kind neighbor, and he numbered his friends among the best citizens of the county.

Noah was married four times and he was the father of twelve children, eleven of whom grew up and had children of their own. Diantha's greatgranddaughter Judy Green lives in Jacksonville FL (I can be at her house in fifteen minutes). Over 20 years ago we each moved over a thousand miles from where both of our families grew up in Lucas co Ohio never knowing or hearing of each others family.

Twelve years ago when we met in the course of family research. It is a small world and a good one, when there are long lost cousins/ third cousin once removed if you want to get technical, who are as super as Judy. She has a gigantic file on Noah Cox including over 100 pages of Civil War Pension Records. She teaches a genealogy class, and I learn from her all the time, since she lets me volunteer at the FHC on the same day that she does. (And I generally laugh when I am around her as well.)

Carried married William H. DUPOY on 2 Jul 1891, in Wood Co., OH. He died 20 Nov 1917.

(Coming home unexpectedly one day, Noah hears a noise in the bedroom, groping around to "see" what is going on, he exclaims: "Hey! That's not me!")

Noah and Nina had one child, a son.

1b.1 Joseph Arthur COX lived a short life. He was born ca 12 Jan 1884, Perrysburg, Wood Co., OH. He died 19 Nov 1884, Bowling Green, Center Twp., Wood Co., OH. He is the only child of Noah who did not live to be an adulthood.

Noah and Sarah ("Rett") had four children.

Burial: 15 Mar 1971, Wakeman Cem., Waterville, OH

Jesse was a railroader. He married Dorothy SHUFELT. I have his notes from the family reunions, and his address book. He was the secretary of the Cox Family Reunion for many years.

Death: 1962

Essie married Chester J AUSTIN.

 

1c.3 Charles M. COX

Birth: 23 Jun 1891, Woodson Co., KS

Burial: 14 Mar 1956, Wakeman Cem., Waterville, OH

Charles was a foreman At Anderson Elevator In Toledo. He was married to Iva.

Dorothea married Harry M. PRY on 22 Feb 1912. Harry died in Florida in 1967.

(The marriage to Noah Cox was a second marriage for Rose. She was previously married to George Deselm and her children from that marriage were Chester, Archie and Eva Deselms. George who was the brother of Naomi Deselms Cox (Naomi was the wife of Noah's younger brother John. Are you confused yet?)

Noah and Rose had two sons.

Death: 1960

Dayton was married to Perley CORNELL in 1925.

I have posted the information on this page with the hope that it is enough so that you can recognize your ancestors, and the hope that you will let me (and us, who are the known descendants) know. I have been trying for years to find the ancestors of Benjamin Cox.

I am at the point of hoping some old Bible is dug out of an attic in some county near the Ohio River, or some old Virginia records are found, where a soft-hearted history loving clerk secured them 100 years ago to save them from destruction.

In the meantime, I get my jollies from exchanging information with the living :-) so please drop a line.
