Ships journal: The Marion Moore was a new clipper ship, designed specifically for the Australian run, making her maiden voyage from her home port of Liverpool to the gold fields of Victoria. Built by Cato, Miller & Co. in 1852and belonging to Moore & Co., she was the largest merchantman to have come out of the shipping yards of Liverpool.

As emigrants slept overnight in Liverpool, ready to board the Marion Moore next day, they were woken soon after 4am. by a frightening earthquake. This was followed by a day of unusually high temperature for that time of the year, 55 - 60 degrees.

There were 19 deaths on the voyage, mainly from bronchitis and similar respiratory infections and diarrhoea, while 11 infants were born at sea. The ship was in beautiful order on arrival, with the 500 immigrants and 44 crew members now all in good health and spirits.
