DEATH OF CREED REED

Funeral services for the late Mr. Creed Reed, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hawkins, Jan. 22, 1931, was held from the Ostrich Funeral Home at one o'clock Friday, Jan. 23, 1931, Rev. Abraham Lind of Astoria having charge of the services, assisted by Judge C. J. Scofield.  Mrs. Grace Mosley and Mrs. Mayme Corson sang very beautifully, "In the Sweet By and By" and "God Will Take Care of You."  The casket bearers were Jack Reed, Gordon Reed, Martin Reed, Lawrence King, Charlie Alley and Jeptha Alley.

Those attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Alley, of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Owen Emery and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reed of Stillwell.

Creed Reed, son of Mark and Lucy Reed, was born Feb. 29, 1852, in Floyd county, Virginia, and died Jan. 22, 1931, aged 78 years, 10 months and 23 days.

He was married to Henrietta Altyzer in 1875.  To this union three children were born, Fuller of Fountain Green, Ill.; Mrs. Zetta Hawkins, of Carthage, and George, who died in Virginia.

He was married Nov. 17, 1888, to Camsade Darnell.  To this union nine children were born, two children, Mrs. Mary Shinn and David, with the wife, have preceded him in death.  Those left to mourn his loss are Mrs. Louisa Emery, Mrs. Mattie Alley, Charley and Alfred, of Disco; Sherman and Henry, of LaHarpe, and Amon of LaSalle, Ill.

He was a devout member of the Brethern Church, a loving father and a kind neighbor to all.

Note:  Creed Reed is buried in the Pilot Grove cemetery, Pilot Grove township, Hancock County, Illinois.
