The following is Henry Bath of Rose Hill's statement of account with his brother-in-law Edward Osler of Falmouth. At this time Henry and family were living in Portreath and his occupation was listed in the Quaker records as an "accountant". The original is written on two lined pages torn from an accounting journal and can be found in the "Osler Family Fonds" at the Archives of Ontario, Toronto. Mr. Bryan Richards of the Swansea Mariners web site provides the following information from his research at the West Glamorgan Archives: The ships mentioned were all Brigantines, not Brigs. The shares in a ship were divided into 64 equal parts; thus 1 /32 is equal to two shares. At least four of the ships were still sailing out of Swansea in the mid 1820s. The "Ebrington", built 1805, was lost off the Squalls Mar. 15 1827. Henry Bath, Merchant, owned 8 shares in her in 1825. Jane Lobbete "widow" owned 8. The "Calstock", built 1812, was lost in a gale Feb. 1836 with John Lewis, Henry's brother-in-law, as Captain. Henry owned 10 shares in her. "Dasher", built 1803, was lost near Padstow with her crew 30 Mar. 1827. Henry had 4 shares. The "Henry", in which Henry Bath held 10 shares, was built 1812, was reported as carrying coal to St Ives, Cornwall in 1823. Her fate is unknown. For a description of these and many other ships including lists of their owners see Bryan's site.
