The only info I have regarding this surname right now involves the family living in Chesterfield Township in 1860. The family appears on that census as John U. Carter, but a rootsweb message board poster claims it should read John E. Carter, and his wife's name should be Hannah, not Harriet.
John Carter was the son of Jacob and Effie Carter. John's siblings were:
John Carter was married to another woman before Hannah; her name was Ann. Ann's surname is uncertain-- it may have been Claypoole. The children listed on the census were all from John's first marriage. Ann died on 19 Se 1854 and she is buried in the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery.
Jacob Carter, mentioned above, could possibly be the son of Joseph Carter and Mary Gaskill, but it is not certain.
