Samuel Downs married Abigail Austin and had:
James Austin Downs, b. 10 Jun 1789 in Tuckerton, NJ. He died 29 Jul 1866. He was married to Sarah Smith Mathis, b. 20 May 1788 in Bass River.

James and Sarah were the parents of Benjamin Franklin E. Downs, born 26 Aug 1824. He died 1 May 1906, and was married to Ellen Chew (1837-1900), duaghter of Levi Chew and Hope Haines Conrow. Ellen and Benjamin were the parents of:

1. Emma Jane Downs (1870-1961), married Charles C. Robbinson (1860-1936) and had Adelbert Robbins, 29 Jul 1893.
2. James Franklin Downs, b. 27 Mar 1856, d. 13 Mar 1931. He was married to Amanda Lippincott, b. 24 May 1860, d. 27 Mar 1931. They were the parents of:
   • Walter Downs, b. 17 Apr 1876, d. 24 Dec 1938.
   • Austin Downs, b. 2 Oct 1878, married Flora B. Mathis, dau. of Eli Mathis and Eunice Adams.
   • Edward Downs, Sr, b 25 Apr 1881. He married Hannah Adams, dau. of Theophilus Adams and Sarah Mick.
   • Bertha Downs, b. 5 Mar 1884, who married Thomas Gibbs. She had a child, Stanley Downs, but he was not the son of Thomas. He was born before Bertha was married, and a descendant has informed me that a man named Roma used to come hunting out in the Pines from Philadelphia, and that he may be the father. Stanley's father's birthplace is given as "Italy" on the 1910 census, when Stanely was 5. The family was living in Wading River at that time.

   • Stanley Downs, Sr., b 4 Dec 1904
3. Levi Austin Downs, b. 23 Sep 1857. He married Ella Williams (b. 5 Sep 1864) and had:
   • William Downs
   • Levi Austin Downs, Jr, b. 22 Jun 1884. He died 1 Mar 1963, and was married to Ella M. Bozarth (b. 10 Aug 1890), dau. of William and Margaret Bozarth.
4. Daniel Zebulon Downs, b. 12 May 1860. He died in 1863.
5. Sarah Ellen Downs, b. 23 Jun 1862, d. 1881. She was married to Reuben Cavileer (1853-1932), son of Samuel and Mary Ann Caviller,and had:
   • Jeanette Cavileer, who died at age 10.
   • Mary E. Cavileer, b. 1878, d. 23 Feb 1885
6. Mary Augusta Downs, b. 28 Mar 1865, who married William Womelsdorf.
7. Martha Stranger Downs, b. 9 Nov 1874, d. 1955. She married G. Harry Adams (1870-1926), and had:
   • Nora Ella Adams, b. 1893
   • Burrell Morton Adams, b. 14 Mar 1895
   • Alice Rose Adams, b. 27 Apr 1897
   • Levi Henry Adams, b. 30 Mar 1902
   • Annia Engel Adams, b. 18 Jan 1912
   • Martina Engel Aams, b. 8 Feb 1913
   She also married Samuel Merchant(1837-1947) on 14 Jun 1932, in Egg Harbor, NJ.
