Descendants of Michael Scholl
Descendants of Michael Scholl
My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was a Michael Scholl of Germany; I know almost nothing about him.
I suspect he was born near the beginning of the 19th or the end of the 18th century.
I do know that he was married to a woman named Maria Anna Seufert, about whom I know even less.
To my knowledge, they had only one child, Franz Michael Scholl. He was born on the 6th of
December, 1832, in Schwarzelbach, Germany. At the age of 34 he married the daughter of Ludwig
Hoefner and Catherine Hoefner (nee Heim)in the town of his birth. Her name was Sabena,
and the officiating priest at the ceremony was a Father Gotz. I have found that Franz Michael
was listed in house #34 in Schwarzelbach, although I do not know anything about that place or
where his house would have been. His occupation was listed as that of a farmer.
Franz Michael Scholl and his wife Sabena had thirteen children.
Franz Michael and Sabena Scholl

These are the children of Franz Michael Scholl and his wife, Sabena.
- Maria Anna Scholl. She was born March 8, 1880 in
Schwarzelbach, Germany. She married Jacob Arnoldt and died in New York City in November 1949.
According to her daughter, she came to this country at the age of 16 by herself. Some of the
other family members may have come over later. According to
www.ellisislandrecords.org, she arrived on 31 August 1896 aboard the Saale, which
sailed from Bremen. Immediately after her name on the manifest was Katherine, presumably her sister.
- Katherine Scholl. If the Katherine that arrived with Maria Scholl was in fact her
sister, then she would have been born about 1872, as she was 24 when the Saale arrived at Ellis Island. She was not married at that time,
nor do I know if she ever married.
- Anton Scholl, born 19 March 1870.
- Amalie Juliana Scholl, b. 25 February 1874 at 1 a.m.; she was baptized 8 and one half hours
later. I know that her godmother was named Julianna Horning, but I do not know who that woman was.
- Franz Ludwig Scholl, b. 30 March 1883. He died before his second birthday, on 18 November 1884.
- Lorenz Scholl, b. 30 Oct 1868. He married and had two children; they lived in Wiesbaden,
Germany, where his descendants supposedly still live today.
- Sabena Scholl, born in 1867. She never married but remained in the "old house" in
Schwarzelbach.
This house to my knowledge is no longer in possession of the Scholl family.
- Susan Eleanor Hortensia Scholl, born 1 Dec 1872. According to her brother, Viktor, she
married and remained in Schwarzelbach, but had no children.
- Carl Scholl, born in 1875.
- Franz Joseph Scholl, born 18 Sep 1877. Actually I am not entirely certain that this was a
son, but may have actually been a cousin of the family.
- Valentine Scholl, b. 11 Feb 1882, died 24 May 1884.
- Valentina Scholl, born 15 Oct 1878, died 17 Oct 1878.
- Joseph Leo Scholl, born 23 June 1876. He is supposed to have married and moved to
Frankfurt but I believe had no children.
- Viktor Scholl
I have come across another Michael Scholl (b 26 May 1884), who had a brother named Valentine N. Scholl (b. 22 0ct. 1876).
Their father was Franciscus Scholl (b 1842). I found the resemblance in both family names a bit remarkable, especially since the information
I have gives Valentina as being born Oct 1878, and this Valentine being born in Oct 1876. It is possible that there is a common
source for this information and that someone somewhere along the line misunderstood it or transcribed it incorrectly. Word of
mouth from descendants is the source on both families.
Unfortunately this is all I have been able to find out about this family so far; if any one out
there has more info or thinks they may be related please
e-mail me.

Other Scholl Families
I don't believe these families are related to the one I am looking for, but occasionally
another researcher sends me info and I post it here in case
someone can help him, or if someone
else out there has use for it.
