Jean de la Vigne was born in France, sometime in the mid-16th century. Other than his name, we know nothing at all about him. His son, Guleyn Vigne, was born about 1585, in St. Waast La Haute, Valenciennes, Nord, France. According to the Huguenot Society of America, Guleyn came to New Amsterdam in 1632. His wife, Ariaentje Cuvilje, was also from France although I am uncertain whether they met in Europe or New Amsterdam. Jean's death date is uncertain, but Ariantje died in New Amsterdam in May of 1655.

The children of Guleyn Vigne and Ariantje Cuvilje were:

  1. Maria Vigne (1610-1670). Her first husband was Jan Roos, born in New Amsterdam in 1632. With him she had: Maria Vigne's second husband was Abraham Isaac Ver Planck, who was born in Holland in 1606. He died in 1691 in New Amsterdam. With him she bore:
  2. Christina Vigne, born about 1610 (this would make her Maria's twin). She was born in France (although some sources indicate Holland); she died in Bushwick, New Amsterdam about 1663.
  3. Guleyn Vigne (1625--??)
  4. Jan Vigne (1614-1689). He married Emmentje Goosen Vanderslys. Jan was a brewer by profession.
  5. Rachel Vigne (1617-1662). According to the Yearbook of the Holland Society 1900, she was born in New Amsterdam, an impossibility if Guleyn did not arrive there until 1632. Obviously one of the sources is mistaken. Rachel married Cornelius Van Tienhoven and had:
