On Thursday, April 12th, a brilliant wedding was celebrated in St. Peter's Church, Morristown--the parties being Captain James J. Van Horn, of the 8th U. S. Infantry, and a daughter of Colonel John C. Rafferty. The Tuesday following(April 17, 1866), while the bridal party were passing their honeymoon at the Astor House, New York, the bride was taken ill, and in a few hours was a corpse.

We copy the following from the New York Home Journal: "On Wednesday, December 18, (1867,) Mr. Eugene Ayres, a prominent young lawyer of the West, hailing from St. Joseph, Missouri, son of Mr. Reuben Ayres, of New York, was wedded to the pretty Miss Maggie, daughter of Jacob Morton, Esq., of Bordentown, N. J. The bride was dressed in a rich rep(sic.) lavender silk, and a costly lace veil. The ceremony was performed at eight o'clock, P. M., by the Rev. Mr. Burr, of Bordentown, in the presence of about one hundred invited guests. The bridesmaids, Miss Hanna, of Philadelphia, and Miss Harvey, of New York, were attired in white tulle. The bride received many valuable presents, among which were two solid silver tea sets, and a check for ten thousand dollars.

As was stated in last weeks' news Mr. Chaffee has accepted a position as chaplain and instructor in languages at the Boy's school of Ashville, North Carolina.

An interesting wedding to Toms River people took place Saturday, October 6, when Miss Mary Carroll Hodge, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. George Woolsey Hodge, was married to Sidney Thompson Coale, son of the late James J. Coale, for years pastor of the Toms River Presbyterian Church. The ceremony was celebrated at half past 3 o'clock, in All Saints' Episcopal Church, Torresdale, Philadelphia. Mrs. Edmund C. Gosling of Bermuda and Mrs. Joseph Phillips, a sister of the bride, acted as matrons of honor. The bridesmaids included Miss Elizabeth Cadwalader Rowland, Miss Katharine Newins Bradford, Miss Mary Arabella Coale, a sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Eleanor b. Austin, Miss Louise Bayard Phillips, a niece of the bride, was the flower girl, and Lenox Prevost Hodge, a nephew was the page. Gustav Werth, of New York, acted as best man, while the ushers included William Speers, John Nevin Sayre, Bayard Green, Thomas Durell, and Henry B. Hodge, a brother of the bride. A reception followed the ceremony at "shadybank", the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lewis Phillips, at Torresdale. Rev. Percy Brown, rector of the church, assisted the bride's father, officiated.

Rev. William H. Corbitt, a well-known Methodist clergyman, was on Wednesday evening, married to Miss Emma Case, daughter of Andrew Case, undertaker in Grand street, New York. The wedding ceremony took place at the Seventeenth street M. E.(Methodist Episcopal) Church, New York, of which Mr. Corbitt is now pastor, and was performed by Bishop James. The edifice was densely crowded.

Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Matlack of Haddon Heights, announce the wedding of their daughter, Miriam Trenna, to Mr. E.N.c. Davis, Sr of Haddon Heights. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.R. Rorer, who also in the same ceremony, united in marriage Lieut. E.R. Davis, M.R.C., and Miss Jessie Hampshire. The happy couples are spending their honeymoons at the Haddon Hall, Atlantic City.

The marriage of Howard L. Davis, of New Egypt, and Mrs. Naomi Ruth Noel, of Hagerstown,MD(?), took place on Monday. The groom is the proprietor of a large chicken farm and incubator establishment in the Ocean County town. The bride came on from her home city to join the prospective groom at New Egypt. They are now on their honeymoon.

A quiet wedding took place this morning (Oct 17) at 10:00 a.m. at the City Hall of Newark when the mayor of that city united in marriage Miss Martha Fergurson, daughter of ex-Mayor and Mrs. Thomas Fergurson of this place (Point Pleasant) and William Apter of Newark. The couple were attended by Mrs. Thomas Fergurson, mother of the bride and Miss Jane Apter, sister of the groom. The bride was attired in Navy blue French serge coat dress with hat to match. The couple will reside at the home of the brides parents on St. Louis avenue while Mr. Apter is employed at the American Food store on Main Street, of Asbury Park. Both Mr. and Mrs. Apter are well known here Mrs. Apter being a telephone operator here.

According to the Democrat, amalgamation is sanctioned under Democratic rule in Bergen county. There was a mixed wedding at the couty-house on Christmas day. The couple were John Johnson, white, and Eliza Blenis, of the blackest hue. Johnson did the cobbling and Blenis the cooking at the establishment. They were united by Frank Jackson, a colored divine of Teaneck.

The bridesmaid was Miss Jeans S. Hough, and the best man was Willard Parker Hough. After the ceremony, refreshments were served and the young couple left Media for their future home in Camden.

Announcement is made of the marriage of Wilfred Potts of Toms River, a gunner on the USS South Carolina, to Miss Helen Violet, daughter of Benjamin Schwartz, of 909 Broadway, Camden, on Sunday, June 9. The groom is the grandson of Charles S. Applegate, who served through the civil war in the 14th NJ vols. The young man is serving his second enlistment in the navy. He took part in the landing at Vera Cruz, Mex. and also in the landing at Santo Domingo.

Edward Walton of Magnolia and Miss Jennie Walton of this city, brother and sister of the bride witnessed the ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Robinson came to the bridegroom's home in this city, where a reception was held.

The elite of Timbuctoo were alive on Monday evening, in consequence of a wedding among the "fust circles" of that famed and fashionable locality. The ceremonies were performed at the brown stone residence of the groom, and there was a gay and festive time. The venerable JOHN SANDERS, well known to our citizens, is the happy individual, but he name of the blooming young bride, we have not learned. No cards--but lots of home-made gingerbread. The bridal tour will be to the Mineral Spring.

The wedding of Miss Bertha Shinn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shinn, of near Extonville, to George Southard, son of Henry and Josephine Southard, of Ellisdale, will take place next Tuesday, August 26th, at the bride's parents' residence. Mr. Southard is a soldier and has spent two years and three months at Fort Wadsworth, N.Y., and nine months in the Porto Rican war.

A wedding lately took place near Timbuctoo, at which the sable parson thus spoke: "Here's a couple who have walked out to-night, wishing to be jined in and thro' love, and wishing all dem dat have anything twixt them, to come forward and speak now; if not, let dem hold dar peace now and forever more. I wants every ear to hear, and every heart to enjoy. "Mr. Jim Thompson, whomsoever stands fastly by your left side, do you take her to be your beloved wife, to wait on her through sickness and through health, safe and be safe, holy and be holy, loving and be loving; do you love her mother; do you love her father; do you love her brothers; do you lover her sisters; but do you love God de best ?" Answer--"I do." Roy Townsend and Miss Clara Belle Stevenson were united in marriage on the 19th of February, at the Baptist parsonage by Rev. I.D. Moore. Mr. Townsend is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Townsend and Miss Stevens is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Stevenson. The young people have long been prominent socially, and they have the heartiest wishes of the entire community for their future happiness.
