The Bozart name is a popular one in Washington Township, and so intitially I thought that this town may be part of that township. In fact, I have come across information claiming it is in Southampton Township. I am told it is near Buddtown, although I am not myself positive just yet. According to this New Jersey site, it is located in Tabernacle Township. Another source, Place Names In Burlington County, New Jersey, written by Henry H. Bisbee and published by the Burlington County Publishing Co.,Riverside N.J., 1955, corroborates this: 0n p.11, a "Bozuretown" is listed as being "Several houses in Tabernacle Township east of the road leading from Tabernacle to Hampton Gate".(thanks to a visitor to this page, Thomas H., for this info.)
UPDATE: I have found a modern map from Franklin Maps that indicates Bozartown as being in Tabernacle, about 3/4 miles south of Route 532.The caretaker of the mansion, employed by the Wharton Estate, was a Bozarth. His name was William Theodore Bozarth. He was born March 26, 1860, and died August 2, 1939, the son of Julia (Weeks- Boyd, widow of John Boyd) Bozarth (1830-1902) and Charles Townsend Bozarth (1836-1924). William was caretaker of the mansion for 20 years, and was employed by the estate for 23 years. He served in Co. L. 2nd NJ Cavalry in the Civil War. His first wife Margaret Ford (1865-1912) ,the daugther of Caleb L. Ford and Mary Simpkins. His second wife was Anna Belle Brown -Morasco-Ranman Bozarth. Anna Belle was born 1875 and died in 1948; she is buried in the Pleasant Mills Cemetery , while William is buried in a Green Bank cemetery.
William had five children by his first wife:
The following information was found concerning Bozartown from some deeds:
| Sixty one acres purchase from James Branson and wife, August 10, 1833, on the westerly side of the road leading from Pemberton to Burrs Mill near a place called "Bozarthtown", was not recorded until February 1, 1853 (book J-5, page 545). Added dated November 3, 1902 (Book 375, page 122) for this sixty one acres of land was given to Theodore Budd, nearby property owners at that time included: Japheth Bishop (deceased), F. Leed (50 acres of Cedar Swamp) and George Haines land in William Irick's line. Forty one descendants of Aaron Bozarth and /or their spouses signed the deed to Theodore Budd. |
| Theodore and Alfred Budd, it is said, will have one of the largest crops they have ever grown on their bog near Bozarthtown. |
