Emmelville

Emmelville

According to Joe, a visitor to this site, Emmelville is a small town right next to Weymouth, NJ. Another visitor has it on an Atlantic County map, a few miles south of Weymouth. It is situated on the land between Weymouth Road and the Great Egg Harbor River. According to the map, the only things located there now are a Girl Scout Camp to the north and Lake Lenape Park to the south.

I am still looking for information about this town, if you have something to add to it please send me an e-mail.

UPDATE:
Joe has just provided me with this genealogical outline of the original settlers of Emmelville.:

Philip Emmel was born in New Jersey in 1786. He died 10 Mar 1865. He married a woman named Sylvia Ireland on 2 Oct 1811 in Gloucester County. She was born in 1787 and died 7 May 1866. According to Philip's census entry, recorded 5 Sep 1850 in Atlantic County, his occupation was that of a farmer. He had real estate valued at $4000. Ten years prior, in 1840, he was probably living in Upper Alloway Creek in Salem County, New Jersey. There are a few other Emmel families living in that area in 1840. Philip is buried in the Weymouth Cemetery, as is Sylvia.

According to a G. Millard of North Carolina, Sylvia's real first name is Heliecace.

The children of Philip and Sylvia Emmel were:

  1. ??? Emmel. He married Hannah Harbert (b. abt 1821). They were the parents of:
  2. Sarah Emmel (1814-1890). She married Michael Woolbert on 10 Oct 1832, son of Henry Woolbert and Nancy Down. Michael was born 17 Sep 1810 in Philadelphia, and died 26 Feb 1905 Aldine, Salem County, NJ at 9 p.m. of pneumonia. He is buried in the cemetery at Weymouth. His occupation was given as cooper. Sarah and Michael were the parents of:
  3. Rosana Emmel, born 1829 in Emmelville. She died 1898. Rosanna maried James W. Schenck on 23 Dec 1848; he was born to William Schenck in 1826, also in Emmelville. He died in 1901 in Weymouth, and he is buried there as well. During his lifetime he was employed as a house carpenter. The children of Rosana and James were:
