This town was in Delran Township in Burlington County. E.M. Woodward described it in 1883 as a "scattered and lengthy hamlet" of about 25 dwellings. It had a gristmill, originally built in 1750, as well as a toll house and three churches.
Benjamin Bates was one of the original settlers of this town. The mill was purchased about 1800 by Jacob Haines; he had two children, Jacob and Stokes Haines. Jacob took over the mill when he retired, then Jacob's son, John W. was it's manager. In turn, John's son, Horace M. Haines acquired the mill and added steam power to it in 1879.
Horace M. Haines married Hannah M. Lewis, the daughter of Job Lewis of Philadelphia. They were the parents of eight children (all but one were still alive by 1882).
The store here was built in 1865, by Jeremiah Garwood, although he found business poor and the store was soon out of commission.
