Howardville
Howardville
Ocean County, NJ

I am not certain of where this place is (or was), but it is listed on the 1930 census in the same township as Barnegat and Cloverdale.

If you know anything at all about this place, please send me an e-mail at [email protected].

In 1930, there were only three or four occupied homes in Howardville, on a street the census identifies as 'Cedar Bridge Road'. The reason I say three or four is because of the odd numbering system the enumerator used...he listed a house #324 and a #324A, so I'm not sure if they are the same building.

Anyway here are the 1930 residents of 'Howardville'.

HSE# FAM# SURNAME NAME AGE BIRTH OCCUPATION
323 324 Ford Henry 24 NJ laborer- cranberry bogs
Demmie? 24 WV
Henrietta 5 NJ
324 325 Harney Patrick 61 Ireland laborer- cranberry bogs
324A 325A Cranmer Raymond 33 NJ foreman- cranberry bog
Mabel M. 33 NJ
325 326 Truex Samuel C. 64 NJ laborer- cranberry bogs
Emma J. 60 NJ
Ford Luella 15 NJ *she is Samuel's niece

So far I have done a preliminary search of the 1920 census for Samuel Truex and Raymond Cranmer, and I have had no luck as of yet. They do not show up as 'heads of households' for that year, in any state, so they were presumably living with someone else at that time.

More to come...check back soon.
