Washington Township
Washington Township

This is more or less a holding place for references I come across to Washington Township that I have yet to be able to place into any of the villages of that township. Hopefully this page will remain small, but unfortunately research keeps producing loose ends that will end up here until I can fit them into the larger puzzle. Hopefully someone out there can help; if you can please e-mail me .

LOOSE END #1
The New Jersey Courier for 24 June 1875 listed the following news item from Washington Township:
Captain Samuel Crowley and William Sooy of Washington Township have a law suit on hand before Squire Brome, growing out of a disputed cedar swamp. The township committee of Washington Township have determined to investigate these charges of malfeasance against Captain Samuel Crowley. They have appointed Charles Brome, Joel VanSant,jr., and H.H. Miller, a committee to examine his work. Said committe will proceed to business next Friday June 55th [obviously a typo]

The following table is a list of men having families residing in Washington Township, who were entitled to the state pay of six dollars per month. Apparently this was some kind of pension for those who served in the Civil War.
