
Even as long ago as 1883, when E.M. Woodard was writing his History of Burlington County,
he described it thusly:
"Washington is a small hamlet, located on the eastern border of the township adjacent to Randolph township, and contains a few scattered
dwellings, being situated at the cross roads of a farming district."
I did find it interesting that across the border into Randolph township, Woodard claims that one of the school districts there was Washington District, but does not elaborate on it's relation, if any, to either the village or the township of the same name.
