of the United States of America, for the period of THREE YEARS, unless sooner 
discharged by proper authority: Do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, 
rations, and clothing, as are, or may be, established by law for volunteers.  
And I, (John Crom) do solemnly swear, that I will bear true faith and allegiance
to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and 
faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever; and that I will 
observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders
of the officers appointed over me, according to the Rules andArticles of War.

having joined the company on its original organization at (), and enrolled in it

and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, or militia,
so discharged.  He has received (Twenty Four 75/)100 dollars, advanced by the 
United States on account of CLOTHING.

There is to be stopped from him on account of the State of (), or other 
authorities for CLOTHING, &c., received on enetering service, () /100 dollars;
also, for expenses of SUBSISTENCE for TRAVELING from place of enrollment to the
place of rendezvous, amounting to () /100 dollars: and on account of the United
States for EXTRA CLOTHING received in kind from () and for other stoppages, 
viz: (He has received from the United States Advanced Bounty) amounting to

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for 
Pension No. (58667), and to return it herewith, with such information as is 
furnished by the files of this Office.  (In reply to your inquiry of Oct. 7"/64)

It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that (John Crom) was enrolled
on the (26") day of (Feby), 186(4), at (Columbus Ohio) in (the 21") Regiment of
(Ohio) Volunteers, to serve (3) years, or during the war, and mustered into 
service as a (Priv) on the (28") day of (Feby) 186(4), at (Columbus Ohio), 
in (the 21") Regiment of (Ohio) Volunteers, to serve (3) years, or during the 
war.  On the Muster Rool of Co. ("K") of that Regiment, for the months of 
(March and April) 186(4) he is reported ("Died March 21"/64 in Hospl at 
Tyner Station of Measles.")

On motion and it appearing to the court that it is necessary to appoint 
a Guardian for the minor heirs of John Crom deceased.  The court appoint 
David H Lee Guardian for Eddie L Crom aged about five years and George Crom 
aged three years.  Whereupon came the said David H Lee and in open court 
accepted the trust of Guardian for said wards and gave bond conditional 
according Law in the Sum of Eight hundred dollars with Hollis Fay & 
G. H. Thurston, his Sureties which are accepted.

(John Woodbury), my true and lawful Agent or Attorney, for me, and in my name,
to prosecute the claim presented by me for a Pension for my ward(s), 
(Eddie L. Crom and George Crom) minor child(ren) of (John Crom) deceased; 
and I do hereby authorize said Attorney to examine the papers, documents and 
records relating to my said claim, which may be fouind in any Department or 
Office of the Government; to appoint one or more persons to assist him in the 
business aforesaid; to file additional evidence or arguments when necessary;
to receive the certificate which may issue in my name upon said claim; 
and to do any and all lawful acts necessary in affecting the object of 
his said appointment.

Claim of Guardian of Orphan Children for Pension.

The State of (Ohio), County of (Wood), SS.

On this (21st) day of (March), A.D. 18(66), before me (Edwin Fuller Judge) of 
the (Probate Court) in and for the County and State above named, personally 
appeared (David H Lee), a resident of (Bowling Green), in the County of (Wood),
and State of (Ohio), aged (57) years, who being first duly sworn according to 
law, doth on oath make the following declaration as guardian of the minor 
child(ren) of (John Crom), deceased, in order to obtain the benefits of the 
provision made by the act of Congress approved July 14, 1862, granting pensions
to minor children under sixteen years of age of deceased officers and soldiers:

That he is the guardian of (Eddie L. Crom, who was born December 27, 1860, and 
of George Crom who was born August 19, 1862) whose father was a (Private) in 
Company (("K")) commanded by Captain (S.S. Canfield), in the (21st) Regiment of 
(Ohio) Volunteers, in the war of 1861, and that the said (John Crom) died at 
(Chattanooga Tenn) on or about the (Twenty first) day of (March, 18(64), 
by reason of (Disease supposed to be Measles.)

That the mother of the aforesaid child(ren) (re-married on the 24th day of 
August 1865 to Samuel Akley as shown by the accompanying affidavit) that the 
date of birth of his said ward(s were) as follows: (Eddie L. Crom who was born 
December 27, 1860, and George Crom, who was born August 19, 1862)

He further declares that the parents of his said ward(s) were married at 
Bowling Green Ohio), on the (20th) day of (January), 18(60) by (Samuel L. Roberts,
Minister of the Gospel); and he also declares that he as not in any manner 
been engaged in, or aided or abetted the Rebellion in the United States.

He hereby constitutes and appoints (John W. Woodbury of Bowling Green, Wood 
County, Ohio) his Attorney to prosecute this claim for a Pension and procure 
a Certificate, and revokes and countermands all former authority that may have
been given for the above specified purpose.

Sworn to, subscribed and acknowledged before me the day and year first above 
written, and on the same day personally appeared (David S. Dalley), a resident 
of (Sylvania Ohio) and (A Ordway) a resident of (Bowling Green Ohio), persons 
whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, who being duly sworn 
according to law, declare that the child(ren) named in the foregoing declaration
(are) the only child(ren) under sixteen years of age of (John Crom) who died or 
was killed in the service of the United States as stated in the said declaration
which has been made and signed in their presence, that the mother of said 
child(ren) (re-married on the 24th day of August 1865) and that they believe 
that the date and place of marriage of the parents of said child(ren), and that 
date of birth, are correctly stated in said declaration.  That their knowledge 
of the marriage of the said parents of the date of birth of said child(ren) and 
of the (re-marriage) of the mother is derived from (intimate acquaintance with 
John Crom deceased and his children, and also with Samuel Akley the present 
husband of the Mother) and they further testify that they are disinterested in
this claim for a Pension.
