From The Religious Telescope, ?cleville, OH, March 19, 1851: REV. JOHN CRUM (sic), departed this life, February 5th, 1851. He was born Jan. 5th, 1781, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. On the 22d of December 1800, he realized the pardoning grace of God, and was a member of the U. B. Church nearly fifty years. On the 19th of May 1801, he was married to Margaret Miller, - moved to Ohio in the month of April 1806, and settled in Harrison county. He began to preach in 1808. Moved to Wood co., O., in 1831, and continued to preach as long as strength of body would permit, and during the many months that he was confined to his chair & bed, when friends & neighbors would call in, he would generally have something to say for the honor of his Master and God. He endured his sufferings which were sometimes great with christian patience. He often wished to depart and be with Christ, still he would say, "If the Lord saw proper, he was willing to stay and suffer for years. He was a zealous and warm-hearted preacher of the gospel. His end was calm as a summer lake, and he is now gone to his eternal reward, where the wicked cease from troubling, and the weary are at rest. The occasion was improved from Isaiah 32:17. "The work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever." SAMUEL LONG (listed on p. 171 of 1895 Wood Co. History as another UB preacher)
