March 24, 1883 p3c3 Ocobock, Mrs. Mary Among the oldest, if not the oldest, inhabitants of Essex twp. is Mary, who lives on the old homestead about 4 miles south of the village. Whe (sic) will be 91 if she lives until next June. She brought 9 children to this town 7 of who are yet alive & 4 of them are still residents of the town, Isaac, Benjamin & Mary & Mrs. Palmer Bancroft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maple Rapids Dispatch, Oct. 15, 1886 Obituary Mrs. Mary Ocobock, the subject of this sketch, was born in Newark, N.J., June 20th, 1792, and moved to N.Y. with her parents when a child. She was married to Adam Ocobock of Owosco, Cayuga county, N.Y. in 1814 and there resided till 1843, when she moved to Clinton county, Michigan reaching her destination in the wilderness on the 9th of Nov., where she lived forty one years, - thus being a pioneer of two states. The (sic) was the mother of nine children seven of which survive her. She became a member of the Christain (sic) church in 1869. Hers has been an exemplar life. About her last audible expression was "I want to go", and when asked where? she replied "To glory". Although having been a sufferer for about ten years, she was not obliged to keep her bed until ten weeks ago, when her vigor yielded, and she died Oct. 11th, 1886, aged 94 years 3 months and 21 days. Many eventful changes have transpired during her life.
