Clinton County Republican-News June 23, 1927 EWING REPORTS ON BATH FUND SUPERVISOR ITEMIZES RECEIPTS AT RELIEF COMMITTEE MEET Couzens Visits Village June 16; Will Meet With School Board on Friday Senator James Couzens spent last Thursday in Bath, together with Gov. Green, Wm. M. Smith of St. Johns, and several others. Senator Couzens talked with members of the school board and a number of Bath citizens, also visited a number of the injured children in Lansing hospitals. After surveying the situation to his satisfaction he decided to send an architect to Bath to inspect the present school and promised to meet the school officials at a meeting to be held Friday, June 24th. On Wednesday, June 15, members of the local committee in charge of the relief for Bath school disaster victims met with Supervisor Ewing of that township and he gave a report of money received by him. The fund was divided into two groups, the first being that from which he had already paid bills, which is as follows: Red Cross (taken in at Bath office)______________$ 748.15 Clinton Co. Supervisors__________________________ 2,500.00 Governor's committee_____________________________ 2,000.00 --------- $5,284.15 All money that had been paid out prior to Wednesday, June 15, had been paid from the above fund. In addition to this amount Mr. Ewing had received the following items which had been deposited in the bank at Bath: School ground boxes____________________$767.58 Ovid fund No. 1________________________ 310.00 Ovid fund No. 2________________________ 88.00 Dewitt O.E.S. No. 5, Dewitt_____________ 119.50 Money for the relief of Bath people was sent to several agencies, and the above tabulation refers only to that paid direct to Mr. Ewing, according to William M. Smith, chairman of the committee. All disbursements are being made by Mr. Ewing with the approval of the committee.
