Bath Tragedy September 11th, 75 years ago Jeremy Ross This year's memorial to the Bath Consolidated School bombing held special significance. Many attending felt as though they re-lived the school bombing of 1927 though the tragedy in New York. According to Bath sources, The Bath Consolidated School was blown up by Andrew Kehoe who disagreed with the high taxes the town was instituting. Kehoe stored an estimated 1,000 pounds of dynamite in the school basement and detonated approximately half of it. The explosion killed 38 children many of whom were between the ages of three and eight. 45 people died as a result of the Bath incidents including Keohe himself. There were two survivors of the blast [who] attended the memorial - both displayed what they called newfound empathy for the parents who lost children in the blast. Those attending the memorial said that the events of 9-11 made them recall the Bath tragedy. The Bath tragedy was more devastating relative to its population than both the September 11th attacks and The Oklahoma City Bombings combined as the town lost approximately 6 percent of [its] population.
