LOCAL MAN DIES FROM INJURIES

Cecil Bayles is Victim of Tragic Accident at Dolomite Plant, Friday;
Funeral Services Yesterday

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Cecil S.
Bayles, 39 years of age an employee of the Valley Dolomite Corporation
who died Monday morning at the Bonne Terre Hospital as a reuslt of
injuries sustained in an accident while at work Friday, February 27th
[1942].

Bayles was working exceptionally close to the runway used by the large
trucks when one of them passed. The driver of the truck was unable to
see Bayles as he was working in a stooped position. A portion of one
tire ran over his right leg. When complications set in Sunday, it was
necessary to amputate his leg, but he did not live long following the
operation.

At an inquest held Monday night at the Benham Fuenral Home by Coroner
Clarence Claywell the jury returned a verdict of "The deceased came to
his death, as the result of an unavoidable accident".

Cecil Sylvan Bayles was born in Bonne Terre [St. Francois County, Mo.]
February 17, 1903, the son of A. A. Bayles of Farmington and Alice
Ragsdale Bayles of East Bonne Terre, and passed away at the Bonne Terre
Hospital early Monday morning, at the age of 39 years and 12 days.

December 1, 1928, he was united in marriage to Thelma Asbridge. To this
union two children, Margie Faye and Robert James were born. Besides his
wife, two children, father and mother, he leaves two brothers, Edwin and
Alvery of St. Louis and many relatives and a host of friends.

Notes for THELMA MAE ASBRIDGE:
Thelma Mae Asbridge Bayles
(1906 - 1980)

Thelma Mae Asbridge Bayles was my Grannie. When her husband died in
1942, she was left with 2 children to raise.  She got a job at St. Joe
Hospital in Bonne Terre, Missouri  working in the kitchen. She began
training and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, working primarily in
obstetrics.  She was there for the delivery of most of the babies born
in Bonne Terre, including me, from 1945 until she retired in 1971.  She
got her first driverís license when she was 60 years old because she was
tired of waiting  on taxi cabs.  Standing 4í10" with a crown of snow
white hair, she was frugal, determined, a real spitfire of Irish and
French descent, a gardener, a quilt maker, a staunch Baptist, a healing
woman and a "Grannie" to many people, both to blood relatives and to
those related by choice.    -  Alice Bayles Kelly, 9/15/1998
