Type: Letter Rev. White wrote to Govenor Endicott, 'to appoint places o
f habitation for sixty families out of Dorsetshire which were to arrive t
he following spring.' A meeting was held on October 15, 1629, 'at the De
putyes House'. Twenty five members of the council which financed the emi
grants were there and 'Mr. Forde, with divers others of the genalitie.'
This meeting was arranged so that the finance company would benefit fo
r seven years by the shipping of furs. The government of the colony wa
s to be placed into the hands of Gov. John Winthrop in New England.

Thomas and his family came on the ship 'Mary and John'. At the time of h
is passage the cost was 5 pounds per adult, 10 pounds per horse, 3 pound
s per ton of freight.
MARY AND JOHN - 1630 ; Master Thomas Squeb; owner was Roger Ludlow; weig
ht, 400 tons; had 40 -50 crewmen. Sailed from Plymouth with 140 passengr
s on 20 March 1630. The day of the sailing was the Saturday before Palm S
unday. Landed Nantasket, Massachusetts, 30 May, 1630.
The ship was supposed to land at the Charles river but Capt. Squeb refu
sed to navigate the Boston Harbor, probably because of it's islands, sand
bars and shoals. He had the passengers disembark at Nantasket Point. O
n June 1630 John Winthrop sent for Capt. Squeb at Nantasket, where the 'M
ary and John' lay. He did not record what was said. '[John] Winthrop seem
ed to think he had 'ended [the] difference between him [Capt. Squeb] an
d the passengers', in token of which Captain Squeb gave the order for a s
alute of five guns in the govenor's honour and it was said that Squeb lat
er paid compensation to [Roger] Ludlow.'

Type: Misc. II In 1637 he was one of four men who purchased a large trac
t from Sachem Tehano, which now includes Windsor Locks, the northern thir
d of Windsor and the southern part of Suffield. Thomas also was grante
d fifty acres in Simsbury. He was granted land in 1637 near Sandy Road
, which was returned to the town in 1642. He purchased the house and lan
d of Thomas Thornton in 1640.

rd of Windsor, that in regard the workmen are much taken up and emplyed i

Type: Misc. IV When he married Ann in 1644, he removed to Hartford, Conne
cticut. In The Scott House, which was located on the southwest corner o
f State and Front streets, he established an 'Ordinary', as accommodation
s for strangers passing through. In the diary of John Winthrop the follo
wing entry is recorded for November 17, 1645, 'reached the inn of Thoma
s Ford at Harfford'. The Inn was sold to Thomas Cadwell in 1652, and Tho
mas returned to Windsor.

Type: Misc. V he purchased the homelot of William Hosford. He bought th
e Arthur Williams house and lot in 1658/59. In 1677 Thomas helped settl
e the estate of Nicholas Denslow, in 1669, he settled Elizabeth Denslow'
s estate, and in April 1670 he inventoried the estate of Rev. John Wareha
m.
In John Winthrop's medical diary in 1668 there is mention of, 'Old Thoma
s Ford of Windsor.'
Thomas removed to Northampton, Massachusetts before 1672, where he spen
t the rest of his life.

omas in Windsor, Connecticutt:
Deputy to the General Court 1637-40 1644 and 1654.
Served on fourteen juries between 1641-49. And on grand juries in 164
3 and 1662.
Was chosen Constable along with his son-in-law, John Strong in February
, 1654/55.
