Elsie Ruth RUNYAN

  • Born: 1 Jul 1905 1
  • Married: 11 Nov 1921
  • Died: 9 Dec 1930 1

   General Notes:

She lived two houses away from Francis and Hazel Runyan in Tolono, IL. When she died, her husband, Harold, took Stella and Leota, the oldest girls and the baby, Donald Lee, with him to Iowa. His other two children, Ruth and Harold were sick so their grandmother, Estella Cora Liston, kept them with her. After awhile, Stella and Leota would write Estella letters and say they wanted to come home. Estella would tell her brother, Francis Runyan and cry. So one day they drove to Iowa and picked up Stella and Leota. Francis said when they went to Harold's sister's home to get the girls, they were doing laundry on a wringer washer. Their clothes were at different places where they stayed. He told them to gather up what they had and get into the car. They were going home. When Francis and Elsie asked where the baby was, the girls said that their dad had taken him to town and had not brought him back. When Francis and Elsie checked around, they found out that he had been adopted by a couple in Texas. Their dad never did try to get them back or keep in touch with the children.

   Marriage Information:

Elsie married Harold Charles PALMER, son of John Jefferson PALMER and Alice Mae DAVIS, on 11 Nov 1921. (Harold Charles PALMER was born on 6 Jun 1902 in Tama, Tama Co., IA 2, died on 12 Jun 1972 in Harlan, Shelby Co., IA 2 and was buried in Harlan, Shelby Co., IA.)
