Haskell Walker

December 1969 - Our businessman of the week for this week is Haskell Walker, whose business life is a dual role - pecan merchant and insurance agent. Walker's office is located at 13 West Dawes in Bixby. From there he engages in buying and selling of pecans, one of Bixby's most famous crops, in carload lots. He also sells cracked pecans to retail customers. Haskell is an insurance agent for MFA insurance, which he also operates from the office on Dawes street.

Haskell and his wife, Bonnie, have been married for nearly 35 years. They are proud of their four children, Wayne Walker who currently serves as mayor of Bixby and who works at American Airlines in Tulsa; Shari Smith, a special education teacher in Tulsa, whose husband, Jim, is football coach at Tulsa's Nathan Hale High School and responsible for that team's fantastic record this year; John Walker who is a Free Will Baptist minister and Soloist; and Mary Alice Hall who lives in west Tulsa.

Raised in the eastern part of Oklahoma, Walker has been in Bixby since about 1930. He entered the pecan business in 1935 and became an insurance agent for MFA in 1962. They live at 208 E. Washington.
