Thomas Newton Beaty Letters

Shown below are the images of the original letters written by Thomas Newton Beaty while serving in the Confederate Army.  Thomas Beaty was a private assigned to Company C, 31st Regiment of the Mississippi Volunteers.  The first letter shown below was written by Thomas Newton Beaty to his sister, Martha Jane.  The letter was written from Jackson, Mississippi on May 20, 1863.

The letter below was written on the opposite side of the paper used to write the letter above.  The letter on this side was written to Thomas Newton Beaty's wife, Margaret and their children.  The two letters were written on a shipping ticket dated February 23, 1859.  The shipping ticket is for 12 bales of cotton shipped on board the Keel Boat, Tempest, from Grenada, Mississippi to New Orleans.

 

The next letter is the front side of a letter written by Thomas Newton Beaty to his wife Margaret on December 13, 1863, while he was stationed at Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi.

The letter below is another letter written by Thomas Newton Beaty to his wife Margaret from Canton, Mississippi.  This letter is dated January 29, 1864.
