The first store in the Buffalo Township community of Mt. Zion was erected when that township was still part of Guernsey County. J. C. "Jake" Secrest operated the store in the 1920's, selling it late in that decade to Abraham Groves. Groves built a new store building a few years later, but business declined during the 1930's, and he closed the store about 1940.
