Article in Smith Co. Pioneer on Dec 14, 1933:

Grandfather George Smith, whose serious injury we noted last week, passed away. He apparently rallied quite satisfactorily from the ordeal of having his pelvic bones set, but, altoghether was too much for one of his age, and death soon followed. Funeral services for him were held Friday at his old home church--Middle Beaver--and burial made beside his wife in the Clemans Cemetery. Rev. Will Grimes, an old friend of the family, was the minister in charge. Many pioneer families of this section gathered to do honor to their old time friend and neighbor, were represented at the services, among whom we saw John Solomon, Wallie Aikin, "Dud" Cook, the Irve Flathers and Mrs. Myrtle Irish-Marvin, all of Franklin, John Overmiller and the Chas. Harris' of thornburg, the Joe Chances, Wm. Davis', John Henderson and many others.

Relatives here from away to attned the George Smith funeral were Rev. Ray Smith and daughter, Fer, of Waynoka, OK; Mrs. Ruby Smith-Harper and husband of Phillipsburg and Leon Smith, wife and two sons of Bird City.

Smith, son of Norman and Eliza Smith, was born in LaSelle County, Ill, November 2, 1845, and died at his home near Reamsville, KS, December 6, 1933 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 4 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Wheatley, at Nazon, Ill., in 1872 and they became the parents of five sons and a daughter. The daughter and his wife preceded him in death. The sons and their postoffice addresses are given below: Fred E. Smith, Franklin, Nebr; Frank P. Smith, Rockford, Ill.; Willis A. Smith, Reamsville; Ray C. Smith, Waynoka, Okla; Leon E. Smith, Bird City. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, other more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Smith and his family came to Smith county from Illinois in 1886 and he resided in the Reamsville country until his death. He was a member of the Middle Beaver U.B. Church and proved a faithful member until his passing. He was intensely loyal to his family and friends, a strictly honest, upright citizen and departed from this file at peace with all mankind. He is being greatly missed.

We wish to thank most kindly the many friends and neighbors who helped us in so many ways during the short illness and after the death of our beloved father. - Fred, Frank, Willis, Ray and Leon Smith and families.

Friends of George R.
