John Bedient is mentioned in the will of his step-father Roger Townsend
dated May 7, 1674. He purchased a lot in Westchester Co.NY on May 28, 1682
and was still living in Westchester on Jul 26 1686 when he conveyed to his
brother Thomas all land formerly owned by their father Mordecai Bedient
and his wife Mary as well as by their step-father Roger Townsend, lately in
the tenure of Richard Osborn. Was Lieutenant for Richard Osborn in Indian
Wars (Bedient Folder 121 Wilton Library).

Thomas BEDIENT [Parents] was born 1 on Jul 22 1654 in Staines, Middlesex, England. He died 2 on May 12 1698 in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., Ct. He married 3 Mary OSBORN in 1701. Thomas was employed as Miller.

Thomas seems to have been a man respected in his community, and he served on
several grand and petty juries from 1674 to 1693. In 1674 he himself was
involved in a suit over valuable young she foxes, the court being held in
Westchester. That Thomas was a fairly wealthy man is shown by the property
left him and his wife by Roger Townsend, Richard Osborn and Mordecai and Mary
Bedient. Thomas died intestate. Letters of administration were granted to his
widow, one son and six daughters, all under age.

Capt Osborn sailed from London in 1634 and died circa 1685 Westchester, NY.

John BEDIENT [Parents] was born 1 on May 28 1695 in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., Ct. He died 2 in 1761 in Wilton, Fairfield Co., Ct. He married 3 Mary MOREHOUSE on May 28 1723 in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., Ct.

In 1723 John and Mary moved to Wilton, CT where he is supposed to have built
the "Old Bedient Homestead". All eleven of the children were born in this
house. It was located on Hurlburt Street and was still standing in 1987.
Picture postcard dated 1909 shows the house and another was taken by Jean
Bedient of Gerry, NY in 1987.
Possibly another son, Elezar, who fought in Revolutionary War -joined
2 Aug 1781 Capt. Chas. Smith Co.

bounty land but died before the warrant was issued. Also served with Capt
Benedict's Co. 1850 NY Census listed value of R.E. Owned as $1400
SAR 1775 marker on his grave. Moved to Butternuts from Danbury CT in 1802.
