age 75, born in Iowa (everyone else in the household was born in Illinois).

of William. William at age 56 is head of the household. He has been married
29 years working as a laborer doing odd jobs. Phoebe, born in Illinois is 48
years old and has had 13 children with 12 now living. Daughter Elsie, age 14,
single is working as a servant in a private house; daughter Sylvia, age 11, single;
son John, age 9, single; daughter Sadie, age 7, single; and son Isaac, age 4,
single are all in the household. William was born in Indiana. Everyone else
was born in Illinois, except John who was born in Iowa.

of the household. Their son Rufus, 37, a coal miner; son Charles F., 30, a coal
miner; and son Isaac, 13 are also in the house. Willliam was born in Indiana;
everyone else born in Illinois.
The 1930 Census for Fulton County, Canton Township, City of Canton, Illinois
shows Phoebe as head of household, age 69, widow, born in Illinois. Son Isaac,
age 24, single, born in Illinois, is also in the household.
William and Phoebe were not living together later in life. It has not been verified
as to whether they were divorced or separated. William is in the 1930 census
twice, living with both his daughter Mary Jane and his granddaughter, Rosa Cowden
(George).

Rufus was not William's son, but a son of Phoebe by another man. Others state
that he was William's son by another woman. He went by the name of Rufus.
Canton Daily Ledger, April 29, 1940 reports his death in an article headed
"Instantly Killed When Struck by Car Last Night". He was killed about
11:00 p.m. when struck by a car driven by Nick Kovachevich on East Chestnut Street.
The driver reported that Bedwell had stepped from the roadside directly into
the path of the car and that his efforts to avoid striking the pedestrian were
futile.
The article continues to report that Bedwell never married.
1900 Census, Fulton County, Buckheart Township, Illinois, shows Rufus
Bedwell, born Nov 1879, single, living with the John Carson family. His relationship
to the Carson's is servant, and his occupation is listed as farm laborer. He
can read, write, and speak English.

Bedwell, 30, a single farm laborer, living with the William D. Crothers family.
World War I draft registration card shows Rufus George Bedwell, born 26
Nov 1879, a resident of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. He is employed as a
coal miner by Eagle Coal Co. of Canton. Nearest relative is Febie Bedwell, his
mother. He is of medium height and build with gray eyes and brown hair.

Canton Daily Ledger, Tuesday, February 7, 1939 article entitled "Isaac
Bedwell Succumbs to Injuries in Accident", states Ike Bedwell died in St.
Francis from injuries sustained in a truck crash at the Glasford hill early Friday
morning Jan 27. Sustained skull fracture, lacerations about the head and face
and internal injuries.
