(Family members state that Ruby was adopted by Miles and Nora Bedwell after Ruby's mother died. Ruby's mother was one of Nora's sisters, thus Nora's niece.)

• 1930 federal census for Fulton County, Canton Township, City of Canton, Illinois, shows Miles Bedwell, 38, who owns a home valued at $1400, working as a well digger, and his family: wife Nora B., 37; daughter Ruby I., 16; daughter Cleo, 9; daughter Pauline J., 7; and daughter Betty F., age 1 & 4/12. Miles is shown as a veteran.

• Canton Daily Ledger Wednesday May 19, 1948, has an article entitled "Bedwell Inquest Delayed; Woman's Condition Critical". The article reports on the car accident in which Miles was killed. The Pekin Daily Times reports on the front page that "M. Bedwell dies in Canton Hospital; Four Others Hurt". In the article it is reported Mr. Bedwell was a passenger in a car driven by Harry Waldon when the Waldon machine crashed on the curve into a car driven by Keith Davis of Galesburg. A third car was also involved in the accident. Others listed in serious condition included Mrs. Abbie Bedwell, wife of Myles Bedwell.
