Bedford (A.B.) House was born in 1822 in Maury County, Tennessee.
He appeared in the census in 1850 in Hardeman Co TN No Township page 98b DW#
435 age 29. He appeared in the census in 1870 in White Co AR Red
River Dist. page 14 DW# 113 age 50. He died in Apr 1906 in West Point,
White County, Arkansas. He was buried in West Point Cemetery, West
Point, White County, Arkansas. He was a farmer and a stockman.
He was a Presbyterian in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas says:
"A. B. House is accounted a prosperous farmer and stockman of Red River
Township, and like the majority of native Tennesseeans, he is progressive in
his views and of an energetic temperament. He was born in Maury County, in 1822,
and is the youngest in a family of nine children born to Joseph and Alcy (Bedwell)
House,the former of whom is a native of North Carolina, born in 1775. When a
lad he was taken to Tennessee, and about the year 1800, was married in that State
and engaged in farming and raising stock, his land amounting to 200 acres. He
died in 1862, and his wife in 1845, both having been earnest and consistent members
of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Their children are: Mary (deceased), Reuben
(who is married and lives in White County, Ark.), John (married and lives in
Tennessee), Patience (Mrs. Haines, now deceased), Charlotte (the wife of John
Myers, is also dead), William (and his wife, formerly a Miss Bedwock, are deceased),
Marcenie (is the wife of Mr. Brazele and resides in West Tennessee), Jane (and
her husband, D. House, are both dead) and A. B. (the subject of this memoir).
The paternal grandfather was John House, and the mother's father was Reuben Bedwell,
a native of Tennessee. A. B. House resided in his native State until he arrived
to manhood, then came to White County, Ark. He reared his family in his native
State, and with the assistance of his wife, Eliza Wilkes, whom he married in
1840, he succeeded in giving them good educations. Their names are: Thomas (who
married Mary Minifee, by whom he has two children, resides in Arkansas), Joseph
(who married Ina Dowdy and lives at Little Rock, the father of four children),
James P. (married Lou Parcell, but is now a widower and lives in Augusta with
his one child) and Mary (who married Mr. Harville. She died, leaving one child,
who was reared by his grandfather). Mrs. House died after their removal to Arkansas,
in 1884. She was a daughter of Thomas and Ruth Wilkes, and was one of a family
of thirteen children. After coming to Arkansas Mr. House settled on a woodland
farm of 140 acres, and now has eighty acres under cultivation. He raises some
of the finest stock in the county and many of his animals have won first premiums
at the county fairs. He is a Democrat and a member of the Masonic order and he
and his present wife, who was Martha McMillan and whom he married in 1884, are
members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, his first wife being also a member
of this church."
1850 Census for Hardeman County, Tennessee (Roll 881 Book 1, Page 98b),
taken in Sept 1850, shows A.B. House, 29, a farmer who owns $210 in real estate,
as head of household including: Eliza, 28; Thomas, 8; Joseph, 6; and James, 3.
The Gazette, Little Rock, Arkansas, April 25, 1906:
A. B. HOUSE, PIONEER, DIED AT HIS HOME
Father of Hon. Joseph W. House of Little Rock Expires at Age of 83 Years
A. B. House, a pioneer of central Arkansas and for more than half a century a
leading citizen of White county, died at his home at West Point, eight miles
east of Searcy,Monday. One of Mr. House's sons is Hon. Joseph W. House of Little
Rock, who, accompanied by his wife, has gone to West Point to attend the funeral.
Deceased was 83 years of age and when quite a young man he located in White county
and had engaged in farming since then. Mr. House was esteemed as one of the most
exemplary citizens of that county. Col. John M. Moore and John R. Jobe, former
residents of White county who knew him well, spoke last night in terms of high
prasie of Mr. House, as a man and citizen. Although taking deep interest in public
affairs, in line with his occupation of the duty of every citizen, he did not
seek office himself, although no man was held in higher regard or was deemed
worthier of preferment in public office. Mr. House was content to remain a private
citizen always. Besides Judge House of Little Rock, deceased leaves another son,
J. Polk House, who resides at Searcy.
Archibald Bedford (A.B.) House and Eliza Wilkes were married on 21 Nov 1840
in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Eliza Wilkes
(daughter of Thomas Wilkes and Ruth) was born about 1822 in Tennessee.
She appeared in the census in 1850 in Hardeman Co TN No Township page 98b DW#
435 age 28. She appeared in the census in 1870 in White Co AR Red
River Dist. page 14 DW# 113 age 48. She died in 1884 in Arkansas.
She died after 1884 in West Point, White County, Arkansas. She was
buried in West Point Cemetery, West Point, White County, Arkansas.
She was in Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Archibald Bedford (A.B.)
House and Eliza Wilkes had the following children:

Martha E. McMillian were married on 13 Sep 1884 in Red River Township, White
County, Arkansas. Martha E. McMillian
died on 2 Feb 1917 in Arkansas. She was also known as Martha McMillan.

Searcy, Feb. 2 - Mrs. Mattie House, aged 74, died of pneumonia at her home here
at 10 o'clock this morning. Funeral services will be held at West Point tomorrow.
Mrs. House was the stepmother of Judge Joseph W. House Sr. of Little Rock. She
was also stepmother of Mrs. J.M. Percival of Weatherford, Tex.; and stepgrandmother
of Robert T. Harville of Augusta. She was a sister of Mrs. Julia Turner of Searcy
and S.A. McMillen of Argenta, and was the widow of the late A.B. House, formerly
