• World War I War History Commission interview shows that George Madison Bedwell was the son of Robert Bedwell and Ellen Hall of Grayson County, Virginia. He was a self-employed farmer who served in the National Army, Co. B., 317th Division, Camp Lee in 1918. He did not leave the United States. After discharge, he returned to farming in Grayson County.

• 1930 Census for Elk Creek, Grayson County, Virginia shows Maiden G. Bedwell, 41, a farm laborer who rents; wife L. Grace, 28; daughter Lela V., 3 & 8/12; and son James B., 3/12.
