• In his book, Johnson County, Kentucky : a history of the county, and genealogy of its people up to the year 1927 (1928), p. 273, C. Mitchel Hall says: "Linnie and James E. Smith live in Galax, Virginia. Mr. Smith is a carpenter by trade. He fell from a church tower a few years ago and has never fully recovered from the effects of this fall. One of Mr. Smith's boys went to California about eight years ago, and has not been heard from.
