of 10-16; and one female of 26-45. Five people are engaged in agriculture and
one in manufacturing.
The 1840 Census for Bradley County, Tennessee, shows John Bedwell as head
of household that contains one male 10-15, two males 20-30, one male 60-70, one
female 10-15, one female 15-20, and one female 50-60. One person is engaged
in manufacturing (oddly, none in agriculture).
The 1850 Census for Polk County, Tennessee, taken Oct 11 1850, shows John
Bedwell, age 80, Wheelright, born in NC; Malvina Bedwell, age 23, born in NC,
idiot; Rebecca Barksdale, age 40, born in Tenn; Andrew J. Barksdale, age 16,
farmer, born in Tenn; America A. Barksdale, age 14, born in Tenn; Martha S. Barksdale,
age 10, born in Tenn; and William H. Barksdale, age 4, born in Tenn. John Bedwell
and Sarah Ogle were married on 22 May 1799 in Patrick County, Virginia.6 Virginia Marriage register shows
this as marriage of "John Bidwell and Sarah Agle". Sarah
Ogle (daughter of ) was born in 1777. She died before 1850 in
