1870, shows James Bedwell, 27, a farmer with assets of $100, as head of household
consisting of: Sarah E., 22; William, 3; Sylvester W., 5/12; and William C.,
22, a farm hand. The adults were born in Indiana, the children in Illinois.
• 1880 Census for Arcola Township, Douglas County, Illinois, shows James
E. Bedwell, age 38, a farmer, as head of household with: wife Sarah, 33; son
William, 13; son Sylvester, 9; daughter Cora, 7; daughter Laura, 3; son Elmer,
born Aug 1879; and brother Stephen, 27, a farmer. James, Sarah, Stephen, and
Elmer are shown as born in Indiana, the rest in Illinois.
• 1900 Census for Young America Township, Edgar County, Illinois, shows
James E. Bedwell, born Jan 1844, a liveryman, living with: Sarah, born Dec 1846,
his wife of 34 years who has had seven children with six still living; and daughter
Delphia, born Sept 1881 in Illinois. They are homeowners.
• 1910 Census for Stockton Township, Greene County, Indiana, taken in May
1910, shows Sylvester W. Bedwell, 48, a farmer who owns his land, as head of
household with: Emma F., 40, his wife of 15 years who has had no children; and
father James E., 59, a widower. (Sylvester's age must be incorrect; he should
be about 38, not 48.) James Enoch Bedwell and Sarah E. Chambers were married
on 10 Jan 1866 in Indiana.407
Sarah E. Chambers (daughter of John Greene Chambers
and Elizabeth Lucas) was born in Dec 1846 in Indiana.1056,1057 She
