154. George Bedwell5,52,204 was born about 7 Dec 1791 in
Delaware.205 He died on
27 May 1863 in Morgan County, Illinois.206
He was buried in Caldwell Cemetery, Morgan County, Illinois.206,207
The parentage shown here for George Bedwell is not yet proven. It remains
speculation based on these facts:
1. There is only one George Bedwell shown in Delaware tax records prior to the
year 1815. He is known to have been the son of Thomas Bedwell and Jemima Johnson.
In 1815 there are two George Bedwells, one shown as George Jr. However, by
1816 there is again only one George Bedwell. (Research provided by George Sr's
descendant, Kevin Colozzi.)
2. Census records show George Bedwell living in Indiana in 1820, then in Illinois
from 1830 until his death sometime after 1860. The 1850 census shows him to
have been born in Delaware about 1792.
Putting the information in #1 and #2 above together, it seems likely (though
far short from proven) that this George Bedwell is the same one as was taxed
in Delaware in 1815, and he seems to have been the son of George and grandson
of Thomas Bedwell and Jemima Johnson.
George Bedwell's age is shown as 77 yrs, 5 mos, 20 days at his death on 27 May
1863, which works out to a birthdate of 7 Dec 1785. However, census records
in 1830, 1840, and 1850, presumably reported by him during his peak adult years,
all show him as being born during the 1790s, so I've chosen to list him as born
on 7 Dec 1791.
