155. Daniel Bedwell was born about 1799 in Kent County, Delaware.211 He died on 31 Dec 1874 in Kent County, Delaware.212
• His descendant, Kevin Colozzi, writes:
"Daniel Bedwell first appears in the 1817 tax assessment for Murderkill Hundred in Kent County, Delaware. It states that Daniel Bedwell owes $1.50. This assessment also states that Daniel is the son of George. ... On November 29, 1817 Daniel marries Mary Simpson (whom I am not descended from). ... The 1818 tax assessment for Murderkill Hundred in Kent County, Delaware again says “Daniel son of George”. ... Daniel appears to remain a farmer for his entire life. ... In 1820 Daniel is sued by a _ Cooper for the sum of $34.15. ... On May 13, 1823 a court order commands the sheriff of Kent County, Delaware to hold Daniel Bedwell in jail until his trial on December 18, 1823. Details of the incident: Daniel Bedwell got into an argument with a John Davis while voting in Dover, Delaware. Daniel attacked John Davis. James Bedwell (unknown relation) attempted to stop the fight. Daniel then chased James throughout Dover until James became too tired and had to stop running. At this point Daniel and James fought to a stalemate. Daniel then went to the sheriff and reported he had been attacked by James Bedwell. Initially James Bedwell was arrested but eventually the residents of Dover proved that Daniel was the aggressor in the fight. ... On May 10, 1823 Daniel Bedwell and John Eddenfield sign a bail bond for the sum of thirty dollars levied on each of their properties and goods to assure Daniel Bedwell will show up to his court case. ... In 1842, the Kent County Orphans Court grants Daniel Bedwell Sr. the lands of Rebecca Sutton, deceased. He purchased the lands cheaply from her surviving family. ... On April 5, 1842 Daniel Bedwell sells the property he acquired from the Kent County Orphans Court to William F. Hawkins 100 acres for the sum of $163.83. ... In the 1850 census, Daniel says he is 50 years old. He is now married to Elizabeth Aaron (whom I am descended from). Between this census and the 1860 census, we can tell he has at least the following children: James (born 1841); Susan (born 1843); Mary (born 1844); Daniel Jr. (born 1849); William T. (born 1851). ... The 1862 Kent County Pauper Books lists Daniel Bedwell Sr. as being admitted January 1, 1862. It lists his age as 70 and his reason for entering as “infirm” ... The 1870 New Castle County census for Delaware shows that Daniel's family has moved to New Castle County while he remained at the pauper's house. His wife Elizabeth is listed as now being married to _ Watkins. ... The 1874 Pauper Books list the death of Daniel Bedwell on December 31, 1874. He dies at the age of 83 of “sickness”.

• 1820 Census for St. Jones Hundred, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bedwell as head of a household containing these free white males: one under 10 years, one under 16 years, one between 16-26, and one between 26-45; and these free white females: one under 10, one between 26-45, and one of 45+. Two persons are engaged in agriculture. He is listed in the census between Jesse Bedwell and Caleb Bedwell (and since the census does not appear to be in alphabetical order, he may have been living next to them).

• 1830 Census for Little Creek, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bedwell as head of household containing these free white males: one between 15-20, and one between 30-40; and these free white females: one between 5-10, and one between 40-49. Caleb Bedwell is listed on the same census page.

• 1840 Census for Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bedwell as head of household containing one free white males under five, one free white male between 40-50, and one free white female between 20-30.

• 1850 Census for Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bidwell, 50, a laborer, as head of household including: Elizabeth, 30; James, 9; Susan, 7; Mary, 6; Daniel, 1; and Sally Phillips, 42. All were born in Delaware. The adults are shown as unable to read or write.

• 1860 Census for Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bedwell, 65, a farmer whose personal estate is valued at $15, as head of household with: Eliza, 45; William, 9; Mary E., 18; James Kemp, 21; Pricilla Kemp, 20; Samuel Kemp, 1; and Sallie Phillips, 60. The adults are all shown as unable to read or write.

• 1870 Census for North Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware shows Daniel Bedwell, 79, a pauper, living in the Kent County Alms House.


Daniel Bedwell and Elizabeth Aaron were married. Elizabeth Aaron was born about 1820 in Delaware. Daniel Bedwell and Elizabeth Aaron had the following children:
