A celebration of life for former McMinnville resident Raymond Paul Whipp Jr. of Bend will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in Aspen Hall, located in Shevlin Park in Bend. Visitation will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16 and 17, at Autumn Funerals in Bend, which is also handling interment. Mr. Whipp died at home on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, of lung cancer. He was 63. Born in Long Beach, Calif. on April 7, 1942, he was the son of Raymond P. Whipp Sr. and Mary Ruth Hickman. He lived in Oregon's mid-valley region from 1965 to 1980, dividing his time between Salem and McMinnville. He married Belinda Wittrock on Sept. 8, 1983 on Pilot Butte, a prominent landmark in Bend, and the couple settled in Bend. Mr. Whipp owned "House Calls," a mobile home service company. He retired 2 1/2 years ago in order to spend more time with his family and friends. He enjoyed wildlife, jazz, the high desert and mud racing. He liked to feed the birds at his home, sit in his gazebo at sunset and spend time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three sons, Thomas of Eugene, Raymond III of Irvine, Calif., and Steve Mathews of LaPine; three daughters, Dawn Whipp-Groberg of Amity, Judy Marval of Grants Pass and Felicity Tassie of Redmond; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
