• Ericson lists William Bedwell as born in Union County, South Carolina, but this may be incorrect. He told census takers that he was born in Louisiana. His wife, Nancy Smith, lists her parents as born in South Carolina, so perhaps William Bedwell's parents were from S.C.

• 1860 Census for Marion County, Mississippi shows William Bedwell, 53, a farmer with $100 assets, as head of household containing: Nancy, 48; Elizabeth, 15; Martha, 13; Margarett, 11; William, 9; Franklin, 7; and Elias, 6. All are shown as born in Mississippi.

Larry King says: "This Bedwell Family lived on Ten Mile Creek on West side of Pearl River four or five miles South of Columbia, MS."

William Bedwell and Nancy Smith were married on 20 May 1840 in Marion County, Mississippi.72,88 Nancy Smith5,52 (daughter of [--?--] Smith and [--?--] [--?--]) was born about 1822.89 She was buried in Old Smith/Bedwell Cemetery.72 William Bedwell and Nancy Smith had the following children:
