Jim C. Bedwell, 81, of Tiptonville died Thursday, July 4, at Methodist Central
Hospital in Memphis. He was a retired rural mail carrier, a member of Crockett's
Chapel Methodist Church, a host at Reelfoot Lake State Park for 12 years and
a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville with the Rev. Ralph Gunter and Dr.
Jimmy Bedwell officiating. Burial will be in Bell Vernon Cemetery in Friendship.
Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive
visitors beginning at 5 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Bedwell; two daughters, Sara Smith of Cordova
and Pattye Starrett of Lakeland; two sons, Dr. Jimmy Bedwell of Pinson and Terry
Bedwell of Bainbridge, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Janice Jones of Meridian, Miss.;
six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. Sonny
Jones, Don Smith, Marty Starrett, Scott Layman, Mark Bedwell, Alton Vandyke,
Trice Griggs and Chad Hearn. The family requests memorials be directed to Crockett's
Chapel Methodist Church.
