• 1830 Census for Rhea County, Tennessee, shows Leroy Bedwell as head of
household consisting of one male between 20-30 and one female between 15-20.
• 1850 Census for Alabama, BENTON, Roll 1 Book 1, Page 423a, taken in January
1851, shows Leroy Bedwell, 45, a farmer who owns $500 of real estate, as head
of household with: Margaret, 47; Alvira, 18; John P., 16; Sarah M., 12; Ann E.,
11; Kelsaty, 8; Indiana, 7; Berry, 5; and Hugh L., 1. Leroy, Margaret, and Alvira
were born in Tennessee, the rest in Alabama. They are able to read and write.
• 1860 Census for Alabama, CALHOUN, Roll 4 Book 1, Page 537, taken in July
1860, shows Margaret Bedwell, age 48, a farmer who owns $4185 in real estate
and $575 in personal assets, as head of this household: Sarah, 21; Emma E., 20;
Indiana M., 17; Leroy P.D., 15; and Ann, 9. Leroy Bedwell and Margaret Lackey
were married on 9 Mar 1830 in Rhea County, Tennessee. Margaret
Lackey was born about 1809 in Tennessee.192
She died after 1880 in Cleburne County, Alabama. Leroy Bedwell and
