• 1870 Census for Township 16, Calhoun County, Alabama, taken in June 1870, shows J.P. Bedwell, 35, a merchant born in Alabama who has $1400 in assets, as head of household including: wife D.C., 30, born in Mississippi; daughter M.L., 10; daughter D.A., 7; son Leroy, 4; daughter Elvira, 3; and daughter Kelzaddy, 1. The children were all born in Louisiana except Kelzaddy, who was born in Alabama.

• 1880 Census for Sugar Hill, Cleburne County, Alabama shows John P. Bidwell, 45, a farmer born in Alabama, as head of household containing: wife Dicia C., 41, born in Mississippi; daughter Margaret, 19; daughter Ann E., 17; daughter Sintha, 12; son Leroy T. (or J.), 14; daughter Calyana, 9; daughter Indana, 8; son John P., 6; daughter Peny, 4; and daughter Ida B., 3. There is also a black farmhand, surname Wood, age 18, gender unknown, who is listed as "no kin". Margaret, Ann, Sintha, and Leroy were born in Louisiana, while the younger children were born in Alabama.

"Died- - at the home of its parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Crysel at Cullman, Ala., on Sunday the 18th inst., their babe, about 18 months. Its remains were brought to this place on Saturday and on Monday it was buried at Harmony church near town. Mrs. Crysel is a daughter of Mr. J.P. Bedwell of this place."

• 1900 Census for Heflin, Cleburne County, Alabama shows John P. Bedwell, born 1834, a farmer who owns his land, as head of household with: Dia C., born Oct 1839, his wife of 41 years who has had ten children with seven still living; and son John P., born Dec 1874.

"J.P. Bedwell will leave Heflin next week for the Indian Territory to join his
family who went there several weeks ago. Mr. Bedwell was born three milies
south of Heflin 60 years ago and with the exception of only a few years, has
lived here continuously since."

"We regret to report the death of J.P. Bedwell at Yarnaby, Indian Territory,
the 2nd of May. Mr. Bedwell was an old pioneer resident of Heflin and was well
known by our people."

John P. (Jack) Bedwell and Dicia C. Quarles were married in 1859 in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. Dicia C. Quarles (daughter of Penual Quarles and Elizabeth Blayock) was born in Oct 1839 in Winston County, Mississippi. She died on 30 Jan 1915 in Stamford, Texas.

1900 Census shows her as having had 10 children, 7 of whom are still living.

"DEATH OF MRS. BEDWELL -- Mrs. J.P. Bedwell, who was living with her daughter Mrs. A.A. Dean, at Stamford, Texas, passed to her reward on the 30th of January last. The
remains were taken to Yarnaby, Oklahoma for burial, where her husband was buried several years ago. Mrs. Bedwell was 75 years, 2 months and 27 days of age at the time of her death. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 56 years, and was a devoted christian lady. She leaves two sons, J.P. and R.L. Bedwell, and three daughters, Mrs. M.B. Dempsey, Mrs. J.B. Crysal and Mrs. A.A. Dean, all of whom were at the bedside of their mother during the last week of her life. Mrs. Bedwell, together with her husband were among the pioneer settlers and were for many years residents of Heflin, where she made many friends who will be grieved to learn of her death, and all join in sympathy of the bereaved in the sad hours of sorrow at the loss of their mother."

John P. Bedwell was born in Dec 1874 in Alabama.594 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Heflin, Cleburne County, Alabama. He appeared in the census in 1910 in Ashflat Township, Coal County, Oklahoma. In 1910 he was a farmer. He died after 1910.

• 1910 Census for Ashflat Township, Coal County, Oklahoma, shows John Bedwell, age 33, a farmer who rents, living with mother Dicey Bedwell, age 70, a widow.

• 1930 Census for Bentley Township, Atoka County, Oklahoma shows John P. Bedwell, age 56, single, born in Alabama, a farmer who owns his land, living alone.
